Everyday I use advocacy in my internship, I am not afraid to ask a question if I am confused or clarify something. If I don't do this I won't do the work correctly and that will lead to more problems. It's better to be sure than not knowing what to do when the work is handed to you. I have learned this through out this internship. For example when I'm at school and I have to work on something independently I can figure it out by myself because I have a sheet of paper that can guide me through the process. But in my internship I don't have that piece of paper I have someone telling me what to do. At first it was hard to admit that I needed help but yet again it's my first time working as an engineering. After noticing that I couldn't do this without asking questions, even my mentor told me that I should ask more questions. I started opening up and clarifying, asking about specific things of the work I was given.
Since the first day of internships I arrived 15 minutes early and I dressed very professional, even more than when I have my POL. I had a meeting the first day and I took my notepad and my pen, my mentor told me he was surprised that he didn't have to tell me to take one. It's been working out for me, and how do I know that? Because my mentor has told me he was surprised on how well of an intern I am and that he's proud of me. I have told the engineers around me that I liked to be challenged and now they have me on CAD (Computer Aided Design) It's a computer program engineers use. I believe if it wasn't for self-advocacy I wouldn't be where I am today.
