Where I'm From Poem
by Mariana Maytorena
I am from tamales, Posole, and delicous tacos from new . years eve parties and
Christmas reunions with my family
I am from planting orange trees
from being with my grandma and baking chocolate chip cookies I am from the dangerous cities of Mexico and from always trying to stay inside my house
I’m from enjoying my brother’s soccer games from the itchy grass
From the streets that sell Rocaletas, Tostitos and Masapan
From vans driving by every time . they see kids outside
I am from the juicy, salty carne asada tacos
From going to my grandparents house and getting . chocolate
I am from family trips to Altata
From snakes slithering outside the house as we try to . kill them
I am from the ups and downs.
from making patterns for bracelets and pretending to be a beautiful princess
I’m from “Mariana clean your room”
From stormy and humid days
From going to Disneyland and staying up late
