We had to write a 5-7 minute script for our Dia de Los Muertos. We chose to do the play about Selena Quintanilla because even though she didn't know how sing in spanish that didn't stop her from making her dreams come true. We got the most important and most memorable memories from her life/movie. The script was one of the hardest things to make. It was really hard coming up with ideas. When we started making the play we had soo many ideas, we wanted one thing and then another person came up with another idea. We changed the script about 5 times but it was worth editing it because it came out great. That wasn't the hardest it was also the format. Making the names bold and the changing the font size was hard to. It got confusing sometimes, but it did make it easier to practice our lines.
I was so happy how the play came out. I thought it was going to turn out horrible but it was one of the best ones. My group and I got so many positive compliments I was very excited. The biggest fear our group had was having the audience confused or not understanding our play. We had to change our play a lot of times because we didn't know if the audience were going to understand our play. something I would change is practicing more our play and not changing the script 5 times becaue every time we changed the script we wasted practice time.
SCRIPT
NARRATOR: SCENE 1
Around the age of 10, Selena became the lead singer in her family's band, Selena Y Los Dinos. The musical group started out playing at weddings and clubs in their hometown of Texas. The band featured her brother Abraham on bass guitar and her sister Suzette on the drums. Her father, Abraham, a former musician, managed and produced the group. Selena grew up speaking English, but her father taught her to sing in Spanish so she could resonate with the Latino community. She learned the lyrics at first, and eventually learned to speak Spanish fluently.
NARRATOR: SCENE 2
Selena became very popular with Tejano music fans, and at the 1987 Tejano Music Awards, she won both "Best Female Vocalist of the Year" and "Performer of the Year." Her 1990 album, Ven Conmigo, was the first Tejano record to achieve gold record status. she won the Grammy Award Best Mexican-American album in 1993 of her album Live. In 1994, she and the band played numerous tour dates in New York, California, Puerto Rico and Argentina. Amor Prohibido was released that same year, and went gold.
NARRATOR: SCENE 3
Soon after Live's release, Selena went to work on an English-language album that she hoped would put her on the top of the U.S. pop music charts. Unfortunately, she did not live to see its success. Selena died on March 31, 1995, in Corpus Christi, Texas, after being shot by Yolanda Saldivar, Selena's murder sent shockwaves through the Latino community, and her fans around the world as well as her parents, couldn’t believe her passing.
NARRATOR; SCENE 4 (VIDEO)
Selena or should I say the “Queen of Tejano” is known for how normal and caring she was. She didn't see herself different than others. She loved her fans as much as she loved to perform. Her music inspired many people. to believe in themselves and it showed everyone that anything is possible. If it wasn't for Selena there would be no Jlo, no Shakira, no nothing. She broke the barriers between Mexico and the US. Selena Quintanilla Perez continues to be present in the hearts of many, with her songs ,and her special charisma that makes her unforgettable.
